The residents of Sail village in the Beerwah area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district have expressed resentment against the administration for failing to stop mining activities in the nearby Sukhnag river.
The villagers told that the mining activities are creating a lot of problems for them.
‘’The mining company has been using dumpers to transport materials, and the vibrations caused by these vehicles are creating cracks in our houses,’’ the village sarpanch Habibullah told .
He said the mining has deprived them of their primary source of drinking water, as the operations have impacted the springs in the area.
‘’In addition to the damage caused to our houses and water sources, the mining in this river has also destroyed the local road infrastructure,” said a local, adding that the mining has caused significant harm to the local environment.
The residents alleged that the authorities were not paying any heed to their “genuine” concerns.
They have requested the administration to take immediate action to stop the mining activities in the area.
