Jammu, 11 August 2025: Alarmed by a recent violent attack on journalists, a delegation of working journalists today called on Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IPS, to demand immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety and dignity of media persons.
The fraternity expressed deep concern over the growing threats, intimidation, and violence faced by journalists, describing such attacks as a direct assault on press freedom and democracy. They voiced strong dissatisfaction with the manner in which Kanachack Police handled the journalist attack case, alleging delay, inadequate response, and failure to act decisively against the culprits.
The delegation further highlighted a troubling pattern of repeated violent assaults, naka breaches, armed intimidation, lootings, and other serious crimes across the Akhnoor–Kanachack–Marh belt. They noted that ineffective policing in certain stations, including Kanachack, has emboldened organised criminal gangs, putting both media professionals and the general public at risk.
The fraternity demanded immediate FIR registration in all pending cases, constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), arrest of all prime accused, a full probe into criminal networks, and strict departmental action against officers who ignored or downplayed complaints.
“An attack on one journalist is an attack on the people’s right to know,” the delegation said, urging time-bound investigation, arrests, and preventive policing to restore public trust.
